Varsity Helping Homeless Youth

On any given night, more than 1,500 young people in King County are experiencing homelessness.

Please help the Mercer Island Varsity team as they host a drive to collect much needed supplies to help keep youth off the streets. The boys will be accepting supplies every week at Little Dribblers to donate to YOUTH CARE, an organization to help young people achieve long term stability. There will be a collection box set up the check in.

NEEDED SUPPLIES for this winter are:

  • New underwear
  • Coats and Jackets
  • New socks
  • Waterproof shoes and boots
  • Sleeping bags
  • Gift cards (Ross, Target, Safeway, Fred Meyer, etc)

Thank you for your support!

The Little Dribblers program has a rich 50-plus-year history of connecting generations of passionate Islander hoopsters. Open to basketball players in 2nd to 9th grade of any ability, the program is led by MIHS Boys Head Coach Gavin Cree and his high school players. Get your players on the court to play and be coached by the MIHS players!  All proceeds go to benefit MIHS boys’ basketball.

  • The Varsity team will be traveling to Mesa, AZ this season for the VisitMesa Basketball Challenge.  All games take place at Mountain View HS in Mesa, and the final travel roster will be announced in late November (we will take 12-15 players on this trip). We previously attended this event in both the 2017-18 & 2012-13 seasons, and it is one of the top events in the West.  We will play 4 games over 5 days (December 26-28 & 30).  The team will be traveling December 25-31, departing evening on the 25th and returning mid-day on the 31st.  The team hotel is the Hyatt Place Phoenix/Mesa and there is a block of rooms available for parents by calling and asking for the “VisitMesa Basketball Challenge Friends and Family” rate.

  • MIHS boys basketball players are expected to wear shoes that align with our school colors.  Some variation/shade of mostly white or maroon shoes is our standard.  Finding the exact shade of maroon is not necessary – make it close.  We will not be wearing other colors – blue, green, pink, purple, etc.  Practice shoes can be any color.

The staff is excited for a great season for all the teams and players in the program - Go MI!
